JANAKPUR YOUTH REVIVE MITHILA TRADITION

In Janakpur, on October 19, 2024, people celebrated Mithila’s culture with a colorful parade. Men and women wore traditional Dhoti-Kurta and Saree while walking through the streets during the Chhath festival. The goal of the event was to promote traditional clothes and help young people feel proud of their culture.

More than 100 young men and women participated, proudly wearing their cultural garments as they marched through major city routes. The procession concluded with a symbolic circumambulation of the Janaki Temple, creating an atmosphere of deep devotion and heritage appreciation.

Purpose and Messages Participant Sumit Jalan emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating: “We, the youth, are the guardians of Mithila’s heritage. This is more than a procession, it’s a movement to keep our traditions alive and thriving.” Leading the campaign, Mohan Mahato Koiri, who has championed this cultural initiative for the past seven years, expressed his excitement: “This year, we’re taking it to new heights, bringing the dhoti-kurta to every Chhath ghat. It’s not just clothing; it’s a symbol of our pride.”

Participation of Sambad Foundation Members Key members of Sambad Foundation, including Manish Kumar Thakur, Himanshu Roy, Rahul Mahato, Kamal Sah, Sargam Kumari, Papu Das, Bijay Chaudhary, Ranjana Kushwaha, Aaditya Sah, and Arun Sah, actively joined the march, adding strength and enthusiasm to the cultural movement.

The colorful procession was more than a festive display, it was a powerful cultural statement. With the youth stepping forward to embrace and promote traditional attire, the initiative stands as a promising example of cultural revival. The growing enthusiasm seen in Janakpur reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that the rich traditions of Mithila continue to flourish for generations to come.
